A Day Without Mexican Immigrants

One day last year I got home and found my carpet cleaned and windwos done and an uninvited alien napping at a corner of my living room.
I asked him to leave. He did.
However, 2 weeks later, the same thing happened; another alien showed up. There is no way to stop them from coming in, is there?
The good thing is they seemed to do the dirty jobs well and they do no harm. Even though he doesn't speak my language, I feed him from the fridge and let the situation continue semi-willingly.
The other day he expressed that he would like to stay forever and share my TV, drive my car, etc, or he would stop cleaning.
What should I do? I think he's getting greedier and greedier. I can't stop them from coming in, can I?

John Waters

I saw one guy wearing a thin moustache this moring, the kind that John Waters wears (as his trademark, sorta?). If you know what I mean.. It takes a lot of time to trim it well, so it maintains a (dark) thin line just right above the upper lip. But it always seems like the person forgot to finish shaving their moustache/beard. Personally, it is just not esthetically appealing to me. It is rather untidy. A bad fasion statement. I wish people can stop wearing a moustache like that. Either a full beard or just clean shaven. That's my opinion.

Taipei City

I suddenly found Taipei very clean and modern, even though I pretty much visit Taipei every year. I enjoyed the clean and efficient subway. It got me wherever I wanted to go. I also managed to see Taipei 101, the tallest building in the world. It was not as impressive as I expected. I also like that they put TV monitors in the new buses, so people can watch the news, informercials, etc.
The food was awesome. Definitely the best in the world. It's so good that I can even live on the food/snack from any 7-11, let alone the food from all the food stands and fabulous restaurants.
The weather is a little sucky. On top of the ever-lingering smog, it was raining all the time during my last visit... :(
Peace.

Language School Continues

How about some flags...

It's wednesday again and I have officially stayed in Mexico for over a month. Haven't been skating, haven't been excercising or working...
I need to go back to sell my car, and file my tax

es and take care of other odds and ends...I probably need to file for an extension, but I don't know how? I don't know what the corporate lawyer would want me to do here. I probably have to stay here during the entire visa process, which is probably 1-2 months. who knows. I can't rest well and plan anything until I'm finally working. I'm still afraid that the whole thing would not come through and I have to go back to the U.S.. Well, it is not like I don't like to go back, it'sjust that I would rather go back after a year or 2.

Immigration Problem at Mexico Airport

This time I got a tourist visa for 60 day this time. They gave me 30 days last time when I came for the interview. Only 7 days when I first came in last November. I guess it´s because they felt guilty for detaining me. :)

They checked my passport (The cover of my passport says "republic of China" on the top and then "Taiwan" at the bottom and I knew it was the "china" part that caused the problem. I am definitely going to get a passport that only says "Taiwan". I don't identify myself with Chinese anymore. I'm a proud Taiwanese.), took me to a room where there were already 2 other ¨Chinese" men there and then took away my passport and green card. The woman in the room logged me in and asked me in Spanish if Taiwan was part of China. I, of course, said, "no, Taiwan es differente. No es (parte de) China"... Luckily, in a minute or 2, they took me to the office where they questioned me and checked my other documents: school, accomodation, air ticket, etc. and later let me go. I surely didn´t like the special treatment that they gave me. But at least, they didn't detain me for long, if any. Although, they treated me like all other Chinese people with a China passport.

Last month I read the news that they would detain everybody that comes in with a Chinese passport, because they suspected that all chinese passports were fake. they only release people after confirming with the Chinese consulate in Mexico City. So, sometimes people have to stay there in the detention room over night or even over the weekend. So, that piece of news was accurate.
